You already know to check your website's speed. But when was the last time you checked whether ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI Overviews can actually find your site, understand what you do, and quote you back to someone searching?
For most business owners the honest answer is "never" - because until now, nothing checked for it in one place, alongside the speed and SEO basics you already know to look for.
We've just launched a free website health check that does both jobs at once: Google's own speed and SEO numbers, plus a plain-English read on your AI readiness - the part every free checker we could find skips entirely.
Why a normal speed test isn't enough anymore
Search has quietly split in two. There's still classic Google search, where speed, structure and metadata decide whether you rank. But a growing share of people now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google's own AI Overviews instead of typing a query into a search box - and those tools don't all crawl and reason about your site the way Googlebot does.
To be clear about what's proven and what isn't here: Google's own developer documentation states plainly that no special files, markup, or schema are required to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode - the standard SEO fundamentals still apply. But that same documentation is specific about what those fundamentals are, and two of them are exactly what generic speed checkers don't look at: making sure crawling is allowed in robots.txt, and making sure content is actually reachable rather than hidden behind JavaScript that a crawler never runs. (Google Search Central: AI features and your website)
So a site can score well on a traditional speed test and still be effectively invisible to an AI assistant, because:
- its robots.txt quietly turns away the crawlers ChatGPT and Perplexity use, even while allowing Googlebot
- its content only renders after JavaScript runs, which most AI crawlers never execute
- there's nothing on the page that tells a machine who you are or what you actually do
None of that shows up in a standard PageSpeed report. It shows up in ours - and we're careful to only claim what we can actually prove. We check whether anything is stopping an AI assistant reading you. Whether that then translates into more mentions from ChatGPT or Perplexity isn't something anyone outside those companies can measure yet, and we say so on every relevant finding in the report itself, not just in the small print.
What the free health check actually measures
Paste in your homepage address and, in about a minute, you'll get a report covering four areas, roughly thirty checks in total:
Speed - how the page loads on mobile and desktop, using Google's real PageSpeed Insights data, shown unedited.
Search - whether Google can read the page properly, what it will actually show in results, and the basics that get quietly skipped. On our own homepage, for instance, the check flagged that our page title — "Harri Digital | Web Design & SEO Agency, Plymouth & Devon" — was doing very little at 57 characters, and that we'd left Google to write our own meta description rather than writing one ourselves. Small things, but exactly the kind of quick win that's easy to miss when you're not looking for it.
AI readiness - our own check of whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers can reach your site, understand who you are, and find something worth quoting. Every finding shows the evidence behind it: the actual HTTP status the page returned, the actual robots.txt rule, the actual HTML a crawler would see.
Accessibility and trust - whether everyone can use the site, and the technical housekeeping (HTTPS, sensible error handling, alt text and the like) that makes browsers and search engines trust it.
You get a score out of 100 for each area, the evidence behind every finding, and the three things worth fixing first - in plain English rather than developer jargon. No card, no account, no catch: we ask for a name and email so we can send you the PDF, and nothing else unless you opt in. The report link stays live for 90 days.
Who this is actually useful for
This isn't just a tool for people already fluent in SEO. It's built for the businesses, clubs and charities who don't have an in-house marketing team but still need to know whether their website is quietly costing them customers - the same audience we build websites and SEO campaigns for every week. If you run a sports club, a local trade business, or a small charity and have never had anyone look properly at your site's technical health, this is the fastest honest answer you'll get.
If you're an agency or freelancer managing sites on behalf of clients, it's also a quick way to flag issues before a client finds them first - though it's worth knowing upfront that reports carry the Harri Digital name rather than being white-labelled, since we stand behind every finding in them.
Why we built it this way
We built this because it's the first question every new client asks us: "How is my site actually doing?" Normally the honest answer takes a person and half an hour of digging. We wanted it to take a minute, without a sales call attached.
We ran it on our own site first: 100/100 on search, AI readiness and accessibility, 99/100 on speed, checked 7 September 2026. You can see the full example report here - real scores, real findings, exactly what you'd get back for your own site.
If you want a second opinion once you've got your results, every report includes a "Get a human review" button. One of our team reads it alongside your actual site and sends back a one-page, human-written review within three working days - also free, and most of them don't turn into a paid project. You can read more about how the human review works here.

Whether it's your own business, a client's, or a club or charity site you help run, it's worth a minute to see where it actually stands with Google - and whether AI search can see it at all.

Questions & Answers
Is the website health check really free?
Yes. No card, no account. We only ask for a name and email so we can send you the PDF report.
What does "AI readiness" mean, and does fixing it get me recommended by AI tools?
It means checking whether anything is stopping AI assistants like ChatGPT and Perplexity from reading and understanding your site - blocked crawlers, JavaScript-only content, or a page that doesn't say clearly who you are. It is not a guarantee you'll be recommended by AI tools; nobody outside those companies can measure that yet, and we say so on every relevant finding. It's a check that nothing obvious is stopping them from reading you in the first place.
Where do the scores come from?
Speed and accessibility scores come straight from Google's PageSpeed Insights, shown unedited. Search and AI readiness are checks we built ourselves, and every finding shows the evidence behind it.
Do I need special schema or an llms.txt file to appear in AI search results?
No. Google's own documentation confirms there are no special files, markup, or schema.org types required for AI Overviews or AI Mode - the standard fundamentals (being crawlable, being indexed, having genuinely useful content) still apply. Our AI readiness check tests exactly those fundamentals, not a shortcut around them.
