Success stories · CMO Group PLC
Eight superstores. Two new ways to pay. £2.6M in year one.
CMO Group PLC’s customers were ready to pay with their phones; the checkout wasn’t ready to let them. We built the business case, led the project end-to-end, and launched Apple Pay and Google Pay across eight national superstores.
£2.6M
Facilitated by the new payment methods in the first year.
8 superstores
One modernised payment experience across the whole national estate.

Apple Pay and Google Pay, live at every checkout.
CMO Group PLC’s customers were already paying by phone everywhere else: the coffee shop, the train, the supermarket. At checkout on the Group’s stores, though, it was still card number, expiry date, security code, and a little sigh on every mobile order.
Every extra step at checkout costs conversions, and nowhere more than on a phone. Multiply that friction across eight national superstores and it stops being an irritation and starts being a line on the P&L.
Nobody abandons a basket because paying was too easy.
But payments across a whole national estate is not the kind of thing you change on a hunch. It needed a business case: real numbers, a rollout plan, and one owner willing to be accountable for the result. That’s where we came in.
What we did
From business case to checkout, end-to-end.
Identify and quantify
We spotted the gap and built the business case: the numbers that turned 'we should probably do this’ into a funded project.
One estate, one experience
Designed the rollout so all eight superstores got the same modern checkout, not eight variations.
Launch Apple Pay & Google Pay
Integrated, tested and shipped the two wallets customers actually carry.
Own the outcome
Led end-to-end: definition, delivery, launch and measurement. One owner, full accountability.
Measure what matters
Tracked transactions through the new methods from day one, so the result is a number, not a feeling.
The outcome
The numbers, one year on.
£2.6M
Facilitated in year one through Apple Pay and Google Pay.
8
Superstores on one modernised payment experience.
Faster checkouts
More convenience for customers, more efficiency for the business.
Zero
Times anyone has asked to type a 16-digit card number for old times’ sake.
“Jack’s ability to champion customer needs across our nine e-commerce stores while driving continuous improvement is impressive. He doesn’t just manage projects, he owns outcomes, taking full accountability for the definition and successful launch of new digital propositions that genuinely enhance our customers’ experience.”
